Sprains and Strains
Sprains and strains may occur because of sports, surgery, or other causes. They affect the ligaments that support the joints, as well as muscles and nerves. Sprains usually occur because of an improper movement pattern while running or another sport.
Strain symptoms include:
- Sudden pain followed by spasms and swelling
- Stiffness and pain with movement
- Weakness in the affected muscle group
Sprain symptoms include:
- Sudden sharp pain followed by swelling, bruising, and weakness
- Difficulty walking or putting weight on the affected area
Greendale Physical Therapy has several options to address injuries of this nature, including:
- Ice massage to decrease pain, numbness, and inflammation
- Ultrasound or other electrotherapy treatments to decrease pain and inflammation
- Manual therapies including Graston
- Modalities including heat, ice, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation
- Patient education regarding activities, posture, and biomechanics
Greendale Physical Therapy, LLC helped me regain the strength in my ankles and feet to keep me walking and continue to exercise and golf. The staff are all well skilled, pleasant, and supportive. I would highly recommend them to my friends for PT. They are a great group!
