Overuse injuries occur from repeating the same movement too frequently without enough time for your body to rest, recover, and rejuvenate. Predisposing factors include the use of poorly fitted shoes, inadequate warm-up and cool-down periods, poor training techniques, and similar. Overworked muscles become fatigued and eventually strain or tear. Common overuse injuries include tennis elbow, runner’s knee, shin splints, and plantar fasciitis. Physical therapy treatments focus on strengthening and stretching the affected muscle/tendon groups.
