Tendinitis
Tendinitis is caused by the overuse of a tendon, usually in the lower body. Tendinitis causes inflammation within the tendon and can be extremely painful. The pain may worsen with movement or at night while resting. The tendon may tighten and swell as time goes on. The pain can often be in one area, or it may radiate along the tendon itself. There are multiple causes of tendinitis including poor mechanics, overtraining, lack of stretching/strengthening exercises, obesity, and poor footwear to name a few. Treatment for tendinitis is aimed at decreasing the inflammation within the affected part through physical therapy techniques.
Treatment options include:
- Stretching and strengthening exercises to reduce pain and improve function
- Ultrasound or other electrotherapy treatments to decrease pain and inflammation
- Manual therapies
- Modalities including heat and ice
- Patient education regarding activities, posture, and biomechanics
Greendale Physical Therapy, LLC helped me regain the strength in my ankles and feet to keep me walking and continue to exercise and golf. The staff are all well skilled, pleasant, and supportive. I would highly recommend them to my friends for PT. They are a great group!
